Analysis of water for brewing purposes
The current list of parameters is:
Cations
Sodium
Potassium
Magnesium
Calcium
Anions
Chloride
Nitrate
Phosphate
Sulphate
bicarbonate
Electrochemical
pH
Conductivity
These allow you to fill in most online calculators although most do not use all these parameters. Whilst bicarbonate is shown it will be reported as "Total alkalinity expressed as calcium carbonate" this is partially for historic reasons as much of the information for brewing in the UK utilises this terminology. Conversion from calcium carbonate to bicarbonate may be achieved by multiplying the calcium carbonate by 1.22.
Total hardness IS NOT reported as it has no brewing value and only leads to confusion.
